But Why A Mormon? (11-06-07)

There is nothing callow and immature about Paul Weyrich. He's no parvenu. Yet,  I admit he's not a household word, at least not in my house, but is a household word in many houses.   He is considered  to be the father of modern "conservativism"; he  was a co-founder of the Moral Majority, the founder and president of the Heritage Foundation and an active spokesperson  for conservative Christian causes. Now he may never be a household word in every home but perhaps he will be remembered more as an enigma than anything else.  Why?  His endorsement of Mitt Romney. Why would any conservative Christian endorse a Mormon? Well I know one reason - to stop the nomination of Rudy Giuliani.  But why did he choose Romney when you have men  like  Huckabee, Hunter, Thompson,  and McCain. I am terrified to even think of Hillary Clinton as President Clinton;  I am still trying to get over her husband being President.  But why Romney? I must admit I am just about as terrified if Giuliani  were president as Hillary. They are joined at the hip on issues such as  pro-abortion,  homosexual unions,  and anti-gun legislation, so  I  can understand Weyrich wanting to stop Giuliani. But I have grave concerns over  Romney 's "Mormonness".   I am thankful  Romney's views  are very much  in line with conservative Christian values,  although his pro-life beliefs only surfaced  about the time he announced for President. Yes, I still have grave concerns, very grave concerns! I don't want to castigate Mr. Romney,  for his morals and  family line up with my own. Could I ever vote for him?   I don't know?  What if he were  running against Hillary Clinton with her insatiable lust for power -  Yes I could !

I also have great concerns over the conservative wing of the Republican  Party in general, especially the Christian Conservative  part. There are more divisions than unity.  I think we have too many politicians who are parading as Christians. We must vote our conscience - we must vote with a Holy Spirit led conscience.
